About VC

Technology designed around real businesses

VC-Virtual Communications Limited provides software development and technology integration services focused on creating practical digital systems for organisations.

Abstract illustration of connected technology in three layers: people, with roles and access; processes, with workflows and tasks; and information, held as structured data. Links between the layers show each one supporting the next.

What we do

Technology designed around real businesses

Our work spans bespoke applications, CRM and practice management platforms, automation, systems integration, reporting and analytics, web and mobile functionality, and cloud infrastructure.

What connects all of it is a focus on how organisations actually operate. We look at how people, processes and information move through an organisation before designing technology around those requirements. The result should be software people find useful every day, not a system they have to work around.

Our approach

Business first, technology second

Technology choices should follow business requirements, not lead them. Before we design anything, we want to understand:
  1. what your organisation does and how work flows through it;

  2. which systems you already use, and what works well;

  3. where time is lost to manual steps, duplication or missing information;

  4. who needs access to what, and why;

  5. what a successful outcome would look like for you.

That understanding shapes everything that follows, from the data structures and workflows to the permissions and reports.

How we think

Connected systems

Business technology rarely exists in isolation. Clients, projects, tasks, time, costs and reports are connected in the real world, and the systems that support them should be connected too.

We think about integration from the start: how a new application will exchange information with accounting software, how mobile users will reach the central platform and how reporting will draw on consistent data. Connected systems mean information is entered once, shared where it’s needed and visible to the people responsible for it.

Clients, projects, tasks, time, costs and reports shown as one connected loop, so information is entered once, shared where it’s needed and visible to the people responsible for it.

Automation philosophy

Practical automation

Automation where useful. Human control where important.

We automate the repetitive, predictable steps, such as creating tasks, sending notifications, requesting documents and routing enquiries, so people can focus on work that needs their judgement. Where AI can help, for example with categorising information or extracting data, we treat its output as something for people to check rather than a final decision.

Every workflow we design makes clear which steps run automatically, which are assisted and which need a person to review and approve.

Scale of control, from steps that run automatically, through AI-assisted steps, to steps where a person reviews and approves.
  1. Runs automatically

    Repetitive, predictable steps: creating tasks, sending notifications, requesting documents, routing enquiries.

  2. Assisted

    AI helps categorise information or extract data, as something for people to check.

  3. A person reviews and approves

    Work that needs judgement stays with your team.

Layers of a structured application: secure authentication, role-based access, backend architecture and database structures. Before launch, functionality, integrations, performance and security are tested.
  1. Secure authenticationControls who can sign in
  2. Role-based accessControls what each person can see and do
  3. Backend architectureWell-designed application structure

How we build

Secure and structured development

Good software is structured software. We build on well-designed backend architecture and database structures. Secure authentication controls who can sign in, and role-based access controls what each person can see and do. That structure makes applications easier to maintain, extend and scale as organisations grow and more people use them.

Before launch, we test functionality, integrations, performance and security. Testing reduces risk, and monitoring and continued improvement deal with what happens after launch.

Our process

From requirement to deployment

  1. 01

    Understand

    Understand your organisation, systems and requirements.

  2. 02

    Design

    Design the application architecture, workflows and user experience.

  3. 03

    Develop

    Develop the required functionality.

  4. 04

    Integrate

    Integrate the relevant applications, databases and services.

  5. 05

    Test

    Test functionality, integrations, security and performance.

  6. 06

    Deploy

    Deploy into a prepared production environment, with backups and monitoring in place.

  7. 07

    Improve

    Platforms can continue to be developed as requirements change.

Long-term thinking

Built to evolve

Organisations change. New services, new staff, new systems and new reporting needs all place new demands on software. We design platforms with that in mind, through structured development, considered architecture and integrations designed with future change in mind, so a system can continue to be developed rather than replaced when requirements move on.

A platform designed to evolve: new services, new staff, new systems and new reporting needs are added to the existing platform rather than replacing it.
